This workshop covers the basics of glaze chemistry to help potters achieve better results. We will explore common glaze types – such as celadon, teadust, and floating blue – as well as strategies for dealing with glaze defects like pinholing. We will talk food safety; glaze “breaking”; glaze running; and getting the most out of studio and paint-on glazes.
Zero knowledge of chemistry is assumed or required. This workshop is a practical primer for the chemistry-averse that will demystify glazes and give you confidence working with them.
